milff=mother into looking fit and fabulous

Single moms, I am sure by now most of you are familiar with the almighty buzz word, ‘MILF.‘ Being first introduced mainstream by the cult-classic teenage movie, American Pie with the un-forgettable, “Stiffler’s mom”. But for those of you who are not up on your acronyms, MILF stands for “Mothers I’d like to… well you get the point. I for one, embraced the compliment; I love the idea that a young man would find a hard-working single mom, such as myself, attractive! The question is: should we be flattered or indignantly insulted?

The Negative Aspects of Being Declared a “MILF”.

While I regularly say, thank goodness all those hours in the gym and continuously scheduled botox appointments are paying off, there is a negative approach associated with this, sometimes hard-to-say-out-loud, acronym. As I briefly admitted before, I really liked the compliment and the young man who bequeathed the title, but I did have to wrestle with it in my mind for a bit to find the proper framework for all involved. How do we turn a young and fresh, yet significantly inappropriate saying into something that works for us single moms?

From MILF to MILFF

I spent some time thinking about what do with this glorious stature I’ve been bestowed and I found that by simply adding an extra “F” to the acronym I’d come up with something I can wholeheartedly embrace. It is “Mothers Into Looking Fit and Fabulous”! It definitely says exactly what those kids are saying, but in a much more mature and mom-appropriate way. It is everything I stand for and believe in and a designation I’d like all us single moms who look good due to our healthy living aspirations, to OWN.

Becoming a MILFF?

So now that we have the MILF vs. MILFF situation figured out, how do we become this so-called presitigious MILFF? All women yearn to be seen as desirable and attractive to men. No matter how young or old, us single moms, seem to instinctively know how to bat our eyelashes and demurely smile to get the desired acknowledgment from the male species. We all go to great lengths with make-up, hair, clothing and shoes to look our best. That is the frosting part. To truly be a MILFF, we need to get the core. Everything positive in our single mom life emanates from the inner beauty aka confidence that comes with a strong body. We all tend to do our daily dose of ‘Hail Mary’s', I ‘shoulda’ gone to the gym this morning, I ‘coulda’ parked at the end of the parking lot and walked to the front of the store. But I didn’t. This is where the mind set has to shift.

The American College of Sports Medicine, is not pushing, but is suggesting that all people get moving. Several years ago they published “exercise lite” guidelines for general health and well-being. The recommendation is that every U.S. adult accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate-intensity physical activity every day of the week. One way to do this is a brisk two mile walk.  But if you can’t take the time to do your 30 minutes at once, you don’t have to. Exercise is cumulative, so intermittent bouts of activity will add up to substantial benefits. So busy single moms, what does this mean for you? Walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator – counts, walking instead of driving short distances-counts, pedaling on a stationary cycle while watching TV-counts and working calisthenics into your day like when you are stuck in traffic in your car- COUNTS. This all adds up to a tremendous change in your physicality, it will reduce the risk of chronic disease, improve your quality of life and enhance your MILFF stature.

Now, single moms, there is no excuse to get your body moving. Make these simple changes to your daily routine and every mom who has proudly taken on the big task of motherhood, can move on to the next step. That being, the task of being the MILFF who will strive to teach their children the importance of healthy living.
