Its official! Cougaring is not a trend, in fact it’s not even a passing fad. There a few celebrity couples who have made the older woman/younger man pairing work, but in the real world of dating, men and women still opt for more conventional coupling.

A study conducted by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, found that men and women are still dating within their age range when it comes to dating a mate. Led by psychologist Dr. Michael Dunn, the study analyzed the age preferences of 22,000 men and women using online dating sites across 14 countries. The findings indicated that for the most part women prefer older men with more stature and success while men prefer younger and more attractive women.

Dunn said, “Although there was some cultural variation in extremes, the results showed clearly that women across all age groups and cultures, targeted males either their own age or older.”
In my interviews with Leopard women 40+ the predominant trend is that we would rather live independently for the balance of our lives than settle for anything less than exactly the guy who will understand and appreciate us. We will not compromise, cougar or caretake. We’ve got our girlfriends and our children, so if the right unconditional love comes along it is not the age but the perfect blend that will win our hearts.
Sophisticated women are not interested in going on the hunt to find a boy toy. In fact, we don’t need to hunt at all. The pure and simple fact is that we are the ladies men would rather spend time with. We take care of our bodies, minds and hearts. Frequently I hear men lament that the reason they date much younger women is not because they find them scintillating conversationalists but rather they can’t find an attractive mature woman. They are obviously looking in the wrong places or just not looking at all.
