Carb Lovers Rejoice

Finally!  The diet guru’s agree carbohydrates are necessary in the battle to lose weight. In fact,  it has been shown that it is harder to drop pounds without eating carbs, than it is by including them in your daily dining.  According to a study from the University of South Carolina School of Public Health, a diet comprised of 50% to 60% carbohydrates lowers the risk of being overweight and lowers body mass index (BMI).

This doesn’t mean you can load up on cookies and pastries. Nutrient dense foods rule. Fruit, veggies, and whole grains are the carb superstars.  Potatoes – remember when they were evil diet busters-not anymore, slightly under ripe banana’s – love them! and oatmeal – so warm in your belly. All these foods are rich in resistant starch which acts like a fiber, so it helps you feel full. Research shows that resistant starch can also help you lose abdominal fat and evens out blood sugar levels.

A few other good carb choices include beans, pasta, strawberries, beets, and artichoke hearts.
